Human cases of H1N1 (swine) influenza have been identified in the
United States. There have been a number of deaths, but, thus far, most
laboratory confirmed US cases have been characterized as mild.
Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
In the meantime, observe the following recommendations to remain
healthy:
1. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or
sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. If a tissue is
not available, cough or sneeze into your elbow, not your hands.
2. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after
you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also effective.
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that
way.
4. Avoid contact with sick people. If you are caring for a sick
person in your home, follow the precautions listed in the attached home
care guide to prevent illness in other family members.
5. If you get sick, stay home from work or school and limit
contact with others to keep from infecting them.
