Summary of responsibilities

Alliance Substance Abuse Prevention Committee:

The Committee’s mission is to foster a healthy, safe, and sustainable community by empowering residents through education, awareness, collaboration, and linkages to available resources. Our goal is to remediate the harm and devastation caused by substance abuse to citizens of our community, particularly amongst our youth and families.

Board of Adjustments:

The Zoning Board of Adjustment hears appeals of decisions of the Zoning Officer in enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance and appeals of the Zoning Officer's interpretation of the Zoning Ordinance. The Board is empowered to grant "C" and "D" variances.

Board of Health:

The Mission of the Board of Health is to promote the physical and mental health of all who live, work and do business in the borough of Paramus and to prevent disease, disability and premature death.

Environmental Committee:

The Environmental Commission addresses environmental issues of concern to Paramus and residents of Paramus. The Commission promotes recycling initiatives and sponsors educational events such as the Earth Day Celebration and the Farmers Market. In addition, the Commission is charged with identifying and attempting to protect the natural resources of the community.

Historic Preservation Commission (PHPC):

This commission is dedicated to the historic preservation and protection of all sites, structures, and objects that represent and embody the historical and cultural heritage of Paramus.

Golf Committee:

Provides the best maintained, wellconditioned, and successful public golf course in North Jersey according to USGA standards. We also oversee the activities, operation, and maintenance of the Paramus Golf Course according to the recommendations of our professional staff. Additionally we provide guidance and support to our professional staff and assure that they have the resources to maintain the facilities to the highest quality possible.

Library Board:

The library board promotes the development of independent, self-confident, and literate citizens through access to cultural, intellectual, and informational resources in multiple forms of media.

Office of Emergency Management (OEM):

The mission of the Office of Emergency Management is to maintain a high level of preparedness, to protect the community; to mitigate loss of life and vital assets prior to, during, and immediate aftermath of a disaster; and to facilitate the speedy recovery of the Borough in the mid and long term intervals following a disaster.

Planning Board:

The Planning Board is a statutory body empowered to prepare and review the Master Plan for the Borough; to recommend and review Zoning Ordinances for the Borough and to hear Subdivision, Site Plan and Conditional Use applications.

Pool Commission:

This commission meets twice a month to discuss, prepare, and implement the processes and plans that go into the upcoming pool season. This includes hiring processes, ordering of approved equipment and spending, as well as repairs and renovations of the building and ground.

Recreation Commission:

This commission promotes and develops recreation, sports, and fitness opportunities while addressing the needs of the residents and promoting a strong sense of community and improving the quality of life in Paramus.

Shade Tree and Parks Commission:

This board effectively develops, maintains and promotes a sustainable, safe, and productive shade tree resource that benefits the physical, economic, environmental, and social wellbeing of the community and its residents. We will also continue to improve the quality of life in Paramus.

4th of July Committee:

The Committee is responsible for the planning, fundraising, and organizing all events. The committee has the honor of planning the Independence Day Parade, the Fireworks Show, the Block Party, and the Annual PD vs FD Softball Game.
