[ARCHIVED] Press Release High Blood Pressure – The Silent Killer

High blood pressure is called “the silent killer” because there are no noticeable symptoms for most people. In fact it could be family history rather than their behavior that makes victims vulnerable to stroke or heart attack. Even without symptoms hypertension leaves sufferers at risk for cardiac problems.  Paramus Health Officer Judith Migliaccio recommends an annual blood pressure check. Once high blood pressure is detected it can be managed with the help of your physician.

On Friday, June 21st , from 10:00 – 12:00 Noon, a blood pressure screening will be held at Borough Hall.  At that time, participants may walk in without an appointment to the Nurses Office in Paramus Borough Hall.

A free Hypertension and Diabetes screening will be offered to all Paramus residents on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling the Public Health Nurses at 201-265-2100, Ext. 2308 or 2307.

Health Officer Judith Migliaccio reminds us that screening for hypertension is just one of the annual tests we can utilize to ensure good health.  Moderate exercise and eating five fresh fruits and vegetables daily are also important.  Board of Health member, Mr. Neil Javed , invites residents to take advantage of this important health screening.
